To celebrate 30 years of Big Foot, the club is staging two days of orienteering on our favourite area. The mapped area contains a variety of terrains, from beautiful, runnable native forest to complex gold mining. There is a camp-site neaby at Stewarts Crossing (no water or toilets, but usually a great Shoalhaven beach).
Day 1 - Saturday March 24th will be a middle distance race
Day 2 - Sunday March 25th will be a regular long distace race

The map is 2.5 -3 hours drive south from central Sydney and 1.5 hours from Canberra. It's adjacent to the upper reaches of the Shoalhaven River south of Marulan and Goulburn. From Sydney the fastest route is the Hume Highway to Marulan, then Bungonia, Windellema then take Sandy Point Road (this is the tricky part) towards Mayfield. This route does involve some dirt road from just before the Mayfield locality.
Braidwood and Bungonia are within striking distance. It is possible to camp at the Stewarts Crossing Ford off Stewarts Crossing Road. Note that there are no toilets or water there. But there is currently a bloody big river to swim in.
Limekiln Creek 1:10,000 (probably), by Alex Tarr
There has been some change in the vegetation since the map was drawn. Green patches in gullies have spread a little wider and longer.
SL1 (Middle Distance): Mark Shingler
SL2 (Long Distance): Greg Barbour
Mostly good running in gully spur plus some gold-mining. Open eucalypt forests with some areas of low visibility cypress pine. There are some steeper slopes but most of the map is gently undulating terrain. The gold mining has "canyon" like features , with steep cuttings and few exits and entries.
