Cockatoo Island orienteering
Event Date: 2026-09-19
At:
Club: Big Foot
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL COMPETITORS: Due to an industrial dispute there will be a general disruption to ferry services on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September. Our latest information (12:00pm Friday) is that the F3 service (Parramatta River) will not be running but the F8 service (Circular Quay-Balmain-Birchgrove-Greenwich-Woolwich-Cockatoo Island) will still be operating. The F8 service will therefore be busier than usual so please allow extra time for travel.
This short-form urban orienteering event is offered as part of a weekend of navigational sport being run with NSW rogaining.
Combine your orienteering event with the ‘ferrygaine’(https://nswrogaining.org/event/2026-socialgaine/) on Sunday 20th September. Camp overnight on the island (bookings: https://www.cockatooisland.gov.au/en/stay/) and enjoy dinner and breakfast, provided by North Sydney scouts, with fellow competitors. Food can be ordered when entering the rogaine.
Also on offer: a free navigation coaching session with experienced rogainers and orienteers from 12:30 to 13:30 on Saturday. No registration is required to attend this session, just turn up at the entrance to the Turbine Hall (located south of the Ferry wharf) at 12:30 pm.
Course details: Choose between a long course of approx. 4 km and a short course of approx. 2.5 km. Keen participants may run both courses for the cost of a single entry (dependent on map availability). After completing your first course, re-register with officials at the download station before collecting the second map
